You have to want it.

So, lately I’ve been in a bit of a pickle. Let me explain.. It’s fairly simple actually. I want abs. In the worst way possible… I’m not talking abs when I flex.. I have some of those (4 actually).. What I want is a full set of abs at all times.. Easier said than done, right?

I know what you might be thinking. “Having XX body part isn’t going to make you happy.” “You workout, are thin/strong.. why the want for XX?” “You are healthy, why do you need XX?”

I get it. I really do. However, I want them, and it’s my decision to want them. The struggle though, is trying to get my body fat percentage down to an acceptable range in order to get said abs, with still maintaining my strength for crossfit.

I know a LOT of people in CF have abs. So this should be easy, right?! WRONG. And here is why.. My body and I constantly struggle with one another about what is a good diet to lose fat and keep/gain muscle. I’m aware that it’s extremely hard to do both at once, and that’s why bodybuilders go through a gaining period, followed by a leaning out period… Gain = weight (fat and muscle) gain. Leaning out = fat loss.

Either way. I know that I have some abs under the fat that my midsection is so keen to holding on to.. But I also know that getting rid of that fat is easier said than done.

So what am I going to do? Well. As the title of this post states. YOU HAVE TO WANT IT. That means that I have to GO for my goal.. It means tightening up my diet.. (More lean meats, more vegetables, limiting myself to two fruit a day, getting correct portions of carbs.) As well as adding additional workouts to my day, in addition to CF.

I’m currently trying to add 3 or 4 second workouts days per week. Mostly cardio and abs, seeing as I do my weight training every morning… Cardio in the form of running and stairs. (Running is probably a good idea to keep on seeing as I’m running a half marathon in two weeks…)

The best part of all of this? My boyfriend is 100% supportive. (I mean, you should see HIS abs… 😉 ) This makes it so much easier in both eating healthy (he makes sure to have the freezer stocked with fish and broccoli) and with working out on the weekends (we may or may not go to the gym together on the weekends <3).

Sorry if this wasn’t of interest.. However this is a current struggle that I wanted to ‘come clean’ about, especially since I’m sure I’m not the only one in this boat.

What are you working towards?! What do you have to add to your routine, or give up, in order to reach your goal?!

Five Things Friday {09/26/14}

1. I’ve been dying all week.. Ok ok, not ‘dying’ but it feels like I have been. I started to have a sore throat last week on Wednesday or Thursday, well, Sunday on my way back from Nebraska it went into my chest and turned into a cough.. Which then turned into sinuses.. SOOO yea.. I’ve been a bit under the weather and haven’t worked out or anything since Saturday. 😦

2. Despite becoming ill, Nebraska was a blast! The drive sucked, but that’s expected. However spending the weekend shopping and having some drinks with one of my best friends was wonderful! I haven’t gotten much time to spend with him since he joined the Air Force (we used to spend every morning together senior year of HS when we went to Calculus together).. So it was a GREAT, much needed vacation!

3. OH, I haven’t told you! Speaking of vacations, I’m going to VEGAS in November! WOOHOO! It’s ok, you can be jealous! Andrew had some free hotel nights so we decided that Vegas would be fun. Plus his best friend, who goes to school in Cali, is going to meet up with us with some of his friends! PARRTTTYYYY!!!!

4. I’ve been beating myself up about not working out this week.. Yes, Yes, I know I’ve been sick.. That also leads me to this decision.. I’m not going to run the half marathon that I’m signed up to race this weekend, Brooksie Way. Sadly running a half after being sick all week is probably not the best form of recovery. However, cake tasting with my best friend for her wedding might be. 😉

5. I’m kind of in love with this song… Don’t judge…

SO much to catch up on!!!

MY GOSH! It feels like it’s been FOREVER since I’ve gotten to chat with you guys!! Oh wait, that’s because it HAS been! I’m sorry! Graduate school has been one BUSY time, both at work and when I’m home. Luckily I have a bit of ‘down time’ now, which means that I get to catch you guys up on what you’ve missed!

Let’s start with the important one. THIS GIRL has a new boyfriend! 🙂 (Feel free to scroll to the next point if you don’t want to hear this one.) Someone I’ve known for years, but just recently reconnected with. Best part? (Other than the fact that he’s uber handsome.) Two words. Gym Dates. How much better of a relationship can you be in than one where you can go to the gym together. Seriously. Awesome!

Alright. Moving on. I also ran my first ultra-marathon! SAAYYYY WHHAATTTT?? Yea, I’m sure you all forgot that I signed up for the Run! Woodstock 50K awhile back. So yea, that was on September 6th! It surprisingly went really well! I position my mom and boyfriend at an aid station that I would pass twice per loop (two loops for the 50k), which I think helped a lot. Means I was able to see two friendly faces at miles 4, 12, 20, and 28.

I was a bit sore/hurting after the ultra. That day. However, I woke up Sunday morning just a bit sore.. Where I probably could have ran a few miles.. DON’T WORRY. I didn’t. I rested! But I felt pretty good! I was even contemplating doing another 50k this weekend (ok, so I’m a bit insane..) BUT decided against it because I didn’t want to test my luck with being injured.

Another reason that I’m now happy that I didn’t decide to go the 50k this weekend is because I’m going to go to Nebraska on Thursday evening to see a friend who’s coming back from being deployed! I’m VERY excited because I haven’t seen him in what seems like forever. Not to mention that I thoroughly enjoy solo road trips!

What else have you missed? Well, that would probably be me falling in LOVE with crossfit. Yes. It’s official. I’m in love with crossfit. So much so that I’ve taken my boyfriend and my sister both through their first CF workouts! There is something about pushing myself EVERY SINGLE DAY though a workout that I love! It’s not like anything I’ve ever done before, and because of that I love it!

I promise that I’m back in business everyone! Remember that you can always keep up with me on Instagram too!!
