Friday<<This weekend!

Those are less than signs.. or greater than I suppose, depending on how you read it.. But I read the traditional left to right, so out loud it says, “Friday less than This weekend!”… SO why is this weekend so awesome?! WELL, despite the fact that I don’t get to see my boyfriend (he’s hanging out with a friend at his cottage for this friend’s birthday) I’m going home today after work!

HOME! I haven’t been home in some time! So I’m going to go home to swim my parent’s lake (it’s 17acres in total), then we’re going to my nephew’s birthday party (he’s 3!), and then on Sunday we’re watching my little sister in a parade! OH, and on top of that we (my parents and I) are going to see Despicable Me 2 tonight! YAY!
So… My weekend will be awesome! PLUS I’m going to be making these Chocolate Chip Protein Muffins (Nut Free) from PaleOMG! I figured if I’m going to a birthday party it was only right to make sure I made something ‘birthday’ approved.. And I’m pretty sure those will do it! Not sure if anyone but me will eat them.. but oh well, that means more for me! =D

And now onto some other fun stuff… Or rather some fun facts!

 

1. I’ve decided to start incorporating group training in my training plan.. Monday I got in an almost 21mile ride out of the shop I race for, Level Multisport! THEN, Thursday I went to the group run and they were having a Saucony demo.. Well I already run in Saucony so I just ran the 5.36 miles in my own shoes.. THEN upon returning to the shop they did a drawing for a new pair of Saucony’s.. and guess who won?! THIS GIRL!!! So I’m getting a pair of these beauties soon! (Same shoe that I already have, just the new model!) Yes.. I was STOKED!

2. Sometimes you have to treat yourself… I’ve been trying to get back down to race weight (put on a few pounds over 4th of July), so I’ve been trying to stay away from anything too sweet.. But after the group ride, and run, there’s a conveniently placed Starbucks on my way home.. So I decided that on those days I’m allowed to have a treat.. Hot Americano with a splash of cold heavy whipping cream.

3.. So I told you on Wednesday that I was going to the Farmer’s Market again.. So check out all of this awesome local food I got.. Peaches, cherries, peppers, & romaine lettuce! All of this for $9.50!

4. So I finally joined a new gym! I’ve joined the YMCA in my area… It’s not that I don’t have access to a gym, it’s just that I don’t like having to go to the gym RIGHT before or after work.. So the YMCA has a pool with good lap swim hours, a decent cardio/weights area, and some group exercise classes.. I’m excited to try out kickboxing sometime soon!!

5. I mentioned that my little sister is in a parade this weekend! Well that’s because the fair in the county I grew up in is starting this weekend! It makes me sad that I’m too old to hang out there all week, but at the same time it’s probably a good thing because I can’t handle all of that sugary/greasy/non-paleo food.. My body really doesn’t like it when I shock it like that! BUT I’m excited to at least be at the fair for awhile on Sunday!

Carrot Cake Paleo Cupcake — & Five Facts!

I’m already loving this new “cupcake Friday” day on my blog.. I hope you guys enjoy it too.. Let’s check out this BEAUTIFUL Paleo Carrot Cake Cupcakes from PaleOMG.. You all know I love PaleOMG, and I don’t think that these cupcakes would be an exception!

Delicious huh? I know.. I totally agree! Might be what I make for my house warming party sometime down the road!

So this week has been interesting.. so much going on!

1. I remember how much I HATE packing! If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know that I’m packing my apartment to move into a house with a friend… well, my apartment is in shambles.. Honestly! I went to cook veggies on Wednesday night and didn’t realize that I’d packed the pan that I needed to bake them.. THEN I couldn’t find it, so I had to make dinner on the fly.. turned out ok though.. 3 scrambled eggs with mushrooms & my last salmon burger!

2. I’m finally going for my first open swim tomorrow! That’s right, I’m finally going to feel like a triathlete in my wetsuit while swimming in a lake! I’m so excited! I finally bought a wetsuit from Level Multisport last week after TriSports.com had the one I ordered on backorder for almost two months! I need to get in the water before Motor City Triathlon on June 16th, so I opted to buy this beautiful suit!

3. Oh, and my friend might be coming to the park too!!.. She won a tri bike but she already has one.. SOOO lucky me, I’m going to try out the bike on Saturday to see if I’d like to purchase it from her… It’s a Raleigh Singulus.. Looks like the perfect starter tri bike! SOOO, hopefully 48hours from now I’ll have a new bike!!! =D Make sure to check out Instagram (@DetroitHealthy) to keep updated!!

4. I’ve been eating banana’s for breakfast.. I know it’s not the perfect breakfast, but I’ve realized I’m not really that hungry in the morning.. So I’ve been opting for a banana and some coffee, which has been holding me over until about 11:30 or noon!

And last but not least,

5. I’m planning on doing my second half marathon in September! My sister asked me if I’d be interested in running the Detroit Women’s Half Marathon with her and I said yes.. best part is that I’m finding other friends that are interested in running too! Should be a good time!

Nikki’s Coconut Butter Review

So I’m all about putting something on my apples when I eat them.. And I eat lots of apples (I know, I need to cut back.. but oh well) which means that I also usually eat lots of nut butters. Well, I gave up my normal nut butter’s (almond, cashew, sunflower seed, etc) for Lent. This means that I shouldn’t have something to put on my apples.. but guess what?! Nikki’s Coconut Butter helped me out with that!

What is Nikki’s Coconut Butter you asked? Well, it’s coconut, coconut oil, and then other organic and natural flavorings. Let me tell you. It is delicious! They currently offer five different flavors; Vanilla Cake Batter, Honey Pecan Pie, Macadamia Nut Cookie, Midnight Mocha, and Chocolate Hazelnut Brownie. Yea, as if I need to say anymore right?!

The gracious people over at Nikki’s were nice enough to allow me to try two different coconut butters. However, I realized as I got my order that I’d have to wait to try the Midnight Mocha since I gave up chocolate for Lent. Yes.. Normal nut butters AND chocolate.. What was I thinking?.. ANYWAYS, I still have Ms. Midnight Mocha hanging out in my cupboard YELLING my name.. So don’t worry, you’ll see plenty of pictures post-Easter that include Midnight Mocha.

So, what can you do with Nikki’s Coconut Butter?

There obviously isn’t a lack of things to do with this product! Or you can be boring like me and just heat it up (sometimes with some added coconut oil) and dip your apples in it.. Delicious!

I even added cinnamon to the ‘plain’ Vanilla Cake Batter to spice it up a bit.. again, delicious! Then pictured at the bottom is PaleOMG’s 21DSD Apple & Coconut treats (for recipe see above), however since I’m not currently doing the 21 Day Sugar Detox I used a red apple and Nikki’s Coconut Butter.. Couldn’t keep myself away from them! Very delicious!
