WIAW#30: Snacks

First, let us thank Ms Jenn over at Peas & Crayons for hosting this fabulous party!

Now.. This WIAW is dedicated to the snacks that keep me going all day.. Let’s face it, I’m a snacker… I wish I wasn’t, but I am.. It seems that it helps me get through the day, especially since I’m on campus from roughly 8am-6pm most days.. So breakfast is at home, lunch is at work, then I snack all day.. so let us take a look at the things I actually remember to take pictures of before I snack on them!

New to my snacking list is celery & carrots with hummus. I went a full week with basically having this everyday! I need to start again, because it’s DELICIOUS! (oh, and healthy!)

Fat free cottage cheese! Also healthy! I love that it’s PACKED with protein! Definitely helps me get through the day when my stomach isn’t growling all day!

My absolute go to is an apple! I really don’t discriminate, I’ll eat just about any apple. However, my favorites are Granny Smith, Gala, and Fuji!

Quest bar and coffee! These have been a staple lately because I’ve been working on a presentation and that requires some midday caffeine! Plus the protein bar helps keep me full until dinner!

Not pictured (aka things I always scarf down before I remember to take a picture):
Banana (I try to eat one every morning as my morning snack!)
Jalapeno String Cheese — DELICIOUS!
Yogurt -If I don’t eat it with lunch then it becomes a snack for the day!

Have a great Wednesday everyone!!!

Friday Funday!

So this week has been interesting for my! Essentially my whole lab is at a conference which means that I’ve been working by myself.. So I’ve finally felt like a real graduate student.. and that’s scary!

But we’ll get to that in a second.. First lets check out a DELICIOUS looking paleo cupcake! This one compliments to Clean Eating With A Dirty Mind! Beautiful German Chocolate Cupcakes!

Seriously, if someone wants to make me some of these I will NOT say no!

Alright.. now onto Friday Funday! Also know as, five things that have had my interest/are interesting to me, as of late.

1. I made my own salsa before I went up north of the 4th of July.. Sadly it wasn’t spicy enough.. So when I returned home I had about 10 more ripe jalapeƱos, so I took the salsa I had left and added about 7 of them.. yea.. not to toot my own horn, but it’s DELICIOUS!!

2. THE POOL AT MY SCHOOL IS CLOSED UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST!! I seriously about died when I read the sign.. and cried.. it didn’t help that that was a rough day for me anyways, but seriously, NO POOL?!?! UGH! Guess that means more open water practice for me!

3. My lab space at work is beautiful.. I’m a bit OCD! My lab mates are alway jealous of how clean my space is, but I keep trying to tell them that having OCD (even if just a little bit) isn’t always the best thing… oh well, at least everything is clean and pretty!

4. I made some DELICIOUS ‘pork and vegetable’ soup on Tuesday! I was pretty proud of myself, mostly because it meant that I had food for days! Not to mention that I did it all in the crockpot which means that I didn’t need to slave over the stove, and in this hot Michigan weather, that’s always a good thing!

5. I FINALLY went to the farmer’s market that my school has on campus and scored four zucchini’s and a small cabbage for $3!! Yes, you read that right.. THREE DOLLARS!! Now I know that every Wednesday I need to have about $10 in cash on me so that I can go grocery shopping!! BOOM!

Well, that’s that! This weekend I’ll be going to my nephew’s birthday party on Saturday then racing on Sunday! Be sure to stop by on Sunday to read about the race!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Facts Friday Five FUN!

So I guess it should be “Five fun friday facts” (can you say alliteration?) but that’s not nearly as fun! I love Fridays because I get to tell you guys the crazy ridiculous things that are happening in my life, or the things that I’ve been obsessing over the last week.. Well, lets check it out.

1. Last weekend I made my very first batch of raw cashew butter! If you’ve been keeping up with me you’ll know that I’ve realized that when I eat nuts my face breaks out (zits, not hives.. at least not hives that I’m aware of!) and it’s just no bueno. So therefore, this was my first and last batch of raw nut butter for a while.. Sad, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

2. Since Fun is in the title, I should mention how OBSESSED with Fun. I am!! The lead singer has the voice of.. I don’t know.. but it’s wonderful.. WAIT A SECOND.. You don’t know who Fun. is? Alright, let us fix this.. Some of my favorite songs are Be Calm (this is the one that made me fall in love with them a few years back!), Some Nights and Just Give Me A Reason. The last two being the ones that you probably hear on the radio time and time again!

3. Campus is starting to look BEAUTIFUL! Luckily for me one of the sidewalks I normally take is closed in the mornings (darn summer construction) so I got to snap a picture of these beautiful trees on my walk into school. Oh, and I think the whole campus smells like Lilacs.. yea. it’s wonderful! =]

4. I’ve started drinking my coffee black again. I know that coffee “isn’t paleo”, but hey you have to pick your battles and one with caffeine is NOT one that I’m willing to lose. Brittany not on caffeine is NOT a pleasant person to be around.. Promise. Plus for a while I was using some SO Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer but then I realized that I couldn’t pronounce some of the stuff on the side of the carton (which is saying something seeing as I’m a chemist) and decided that it was time to say goodbye to the chemicals.

5. Last but definitely not least, I wanted to welcome the new followers! Healthy In Detroit is up to 60 followers! Seeing as I figured I’d be happy if I had 20 I’m overjoyed to see that 60 people like to read about my ridiculous/crazy/active/delicious life! So WELCOME and Thank you everyone for putting up with me!!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
